INNOVATIVE   ACTION   BY   THE   GUYANA    EX-POLICE    ASSOCIATION   OF   CANADA

In November 2009, our Organization embarked on a historical decision by making changes to our Constitution.  One of the updates was the introduction of “ASSOCIATE MEMBER”. Associate membership may be accorded from time to time to a non member who does not fall within any of the eligibility categories, former   members and auxiliaries along with spouses and children of the Guyana Police Force, Guyana Special Constables, Community Police Groups and Disciplined services of Guyana, who shares the same ideals, concepts, and beliefs of the Association.

Associate members may enjoy such rights and privileges as other members, and pay similar dues.  Associate members are not eligible to vote or make motions.

In February 2010 the Organization followed up on the new Associate category.  The membership committee recommended to the Executive and General Membership that Mr. Clairmont Burgess be accepted as our first member in the new category, the executive and membership accepted the recommendation.

Mr. Burgess came to the attention of the Organization in 2007 when in conjunction with his Organization Basketball Beginnings, we attempted to run an Educational / Sports Youth Program with Metro Toronto Housing.  Unfortunately it did not materialize due to complications that could not have been overcome.

Clairmont   obviously was very impressed with the Organization and on several occasions he indicated that he wished he could be part of it.  Basketball Beginnings is in its 7th Year. It includes education / ports enrichment taught through School Boards and private Organizations, giving a boost to our youths.  His Organization has support from Educational Institutions, the communities in which they reside, coaches and fellow players.

The contacts, organizational skills that Clairmont brings to the Organization will surely enhance our operational ability in our community programs.
