Brother Julian Montgomery Austin, a long-standing member of GEPAC, copped another award for his trophy case when he was recently recognized for his volunteerism.

The Appreciation Award was recommended by the Guyana Independence Committee and presented to Bro. Julian by Guyana’s Honorary Consul General, the Hon. Sattie Sawh, on the occasion of Guyana’s 46th Independence Anniversary Dinner and Dance at the Elite Banquet Hall & Convention Centre, Toronto, on May 26th.

The Award to Bro. Julian reads:  “In recognition of your extraordinary commitment and dedication to Community Services and to the preservation of Guyanese Heritage.”

Bro. Julian immigrated to Canada during the early 1970`s and always exhibited a spark for volunteerism.  Through GEPAC, various organizations and causes ranging from churches to community youth programs, health leadership and mentoring, he is a beacon of light in several groups.  He served as a Vice-President of GEPAC, as Chair of the Fund Raising Committee and is a dedicated member of this committee for the last several years.  He is also a lead vocalist for GEPAC’s choir.

Since his days as a police officer inGuyana, Bro. Julian exhibited discipline and an assiduous attitude for community activity.  Little wonder then, that he was put in charge of security measures at the Guyana Independence Festival for the last several years, overseeing safety and ensuring the necessary precautions for patrons and participants.

Bro. Julian is a keen sportsman and was a member of Canada’s field hockey team at the 1984 Olympics in Los  Angeles.
